Triumphant music with optimism busting from the seams. Very well produced, emotive delivery of lines. Reminds me a bit of gospelized Lupe Fiasco.
Switch sports golf highlights go so hard with this as the soundtrack
This is such a well made album, there are certainly weak points but the hooks are extremely catchy, the production is glossy clean, and the entire album is just fun. It is corny campy scary fun.
This albums feels like it needed shareholder approval before release. She has great vocal ability, but it is so derivative of Billie Eilish but with a horny twist, just very unmemorable and uninteresting. It just sounds like American Eagle music to me.
Super clean production, but arguably over polished, over calculated, a bit formulaic and unmemorable, and generally not super compelling with its lyrics and storytelling
Given the vibe of her album covers, I am happy to say that this album is not as scary sounding as I anticipated lmao. This is a very clean album, well performed, stylistically a bit all over the place but there is a thematic essence of generally being a bit more melancholic that stays intact throughout the run time. Despite many songs pushing well past the 5 minute mark, the album doesn't really have issues with slogging along and feels well refined. Will need to dig into the lyrics a bit ... read more
Yeah I am not sure why this is just not resonating with me, it has the feel of an album I should really enjoy; droning, pulsing, aggressive instrumentals that ebb and flow between calm and ferocious. But I am left feeling like this is more of an attempt to simply make an album that sounds like it should be this big artistic gesture, but falls short of actually making me feel anything. Stuff like EDM style kick drum build ups to the truly never changing bass lines throughout the songs, it just ... read more
I have tried so so many times to understand the appeal of this album, but every time I throw this CD on I am astounded that it has a score like it does. This albums sounds like it smells bad. Such pretentious, nothingness songwriting. The sample beats make this album sound so bad. If you told me this was written by Kid Rock and just performed by Beck I would believe you. One of the worst albums I have had the displeasure of listening to in my collection. I can't get rid of this thing soon ... read more
Kind of feels like diet deftones. Guitars are heavy, production is good, but Chino's voice is lacking punch, and the songs overall are not super memorable. But to get a fix of some heavy, warped, spaced out hardcore music it does plenty to curb the craving. Plenty of bands have done much much worse 30 years into their career (looking at you St. Anger).
Let me put you on some game, this album is incredible. The songs are so catchy, well sung, produced, written, I can't believe that this album did not spring Michael Sembello into pop superstardom but now it's my secret heater album to recommend people.
The only drawbacks to this album is that it is so unapologetically 80's it might turn some people off, and even the topics are a bit on the nose, especially songs like Godzilla (probably the worst song on the album) but still this ... read more
me: mom can we have Black Country, New Road?
mom: no, we have Black Country, New Road at home
BC, NR at home:
It is a quite powerful, well made album, and comparison is the thief of joy, but it really lacks its own DNA, the inspirations are worn way too heavily on the sleeve, but it is undeniably a beautiful record, Emily was the highlight for me those saxophone hits at the end made me stank face.
But since we’re all gonna die, there’s one more secret I feel I have to share with you: I did not care for Vanisher, Horizon Scraper.
What?
Did not care for Vanisher, Horizon Scraper.
How can you even say that?
Didn’t like it.
Ed, it’s so good—it’s like the perfect album.
This is what everyone always says.
He was a YouTube rapper turned real musician, you don't even understand
Fine, fine musician, did not like the album.
Why not?
Did not. ... read more
Pros - every song individually is very strong, Geese definitely lean more into an experimental, jam band type of sound and for the most part it pays off on each song, the songs are not overly complex but are able to grow and swell into some pretty great tunes.
Cons - there is absolutely 0 cohesion to this album, no 2 songs can be linked in any way, shape, or form. Not that an album is required to be succinct in its creative vision, but this ultimately feels more like a collection of demo tapes ... read more
