Kate Bush - The Dreaming

What a freak she is in a good way. Accents, vocal stims, didgeridoo, chanting, just shit all over the place on this album. I think it lacks a bit in terms of cohesion and vision, but you cannot fault her creativity and ability to push boundaries. Nobody quite like her.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd)

Yeah this album is mainly carried by 3 songs but holy fuck those songs are so insane that the whole project just feels like greatness.

Jethro Tull - Aqualung
79

Its like cat stevens with more edge and rock. Pretty good.

2Pac - Me Against The World
81

There is tremendous pain in his lyrics. Unfortunately, it’s what makes his music so compelling.

Wings - Band on the Run
89

It has been observed by many, but this album is another example of Paul being the whimsical piece of what made the Beatles so great. Despite the lack of somber and melancholy balance of John Lennon, I find that the solo works of Paul McCartney tend to have a bit of a “throw it against a wall and see what sticks” vibe. This creates many moments where songs may drag on a bit too long, or some ideas feel very unrefined. But this also creates some incredible melodies, chord ... read more

Annahstasia - Tether

Calm luh album, like Nina Simone and Tracy Chapman type beat, but super melancholy and chill. Not bad.

Justin Timberlake - FutureSex/LoveSounds
87

Unironically Justin Timberlake is one of my favorite artists ever, some of his songs are so sultry and sexy they nearly stand toe to toe with D’Angelo and Prince in my opinion. This album however definitely is hit or miss. The front half does the majority of the heavy lifting here and contains some of his best songs ever made. Timbalands production is so quirky and out of left field, I love that he typically backs his drums with these weird ass mouth noises and shit that you don’t ... read more

FKA twigs - EUSEXUA [Reissue]
73

I am not sure I will ever fully understand the appeal of FKA twigs. She is to me the modern age Bjork, who I also just can not fully get into. In theory the experimentation and boundary pushing nature of these records should be enough for most, but I always find the songs to lack memorability, and lack a certain punch I am looking for. Oftentimes overly repetitive, or simply too disjointed to really get anything out of the songs, maybe one day it will click for me but today is not that day.

ZZ Top - Tres Hombres
86

Nothing makes me feel like a cowboy quite like this album. I want spurs on my boots and a big ol hat and spit my dip on the street.

Project Pat - Mista Don't Play: Everythangs Workin
88

“Gotta take the good with the bad, smile with the sad, love what you got and remember what you had.”

aya - hexed!

It's good, it's unsettling, but I suppose I am looking for something with more musical sensibility. This is a great art piece, but not something I see myself revisiting very often just because it is not very accessible. Cool overall though.

Prince and The Revolution - Purple Rain
89

While I do believe this is generally overrated, and is not even the best album in his own discography, it is still an extremely huge undertaking of an album with a very clear artistic vision and generally great execution, but some songs lack when stood up next to others such as Purple Rain and When Doves Cry.

Simon & Garfunkel - Bridge over Troubled Water
93

This is an album that feels like it has existed for all time, like the songs were etched in stone in the garden of Eden and are simply being sung and recorded by these two guys who were good enough vessels to sing them. Is it perfect? No. But will it move parts of you so deep you didn't know you could be moved there? Hopefully if you are human enough.

Daft Punk - Random Access Memories
90

Nothing makes me feel more alive than listening to daft punk, and specifically this album even more than discovery. This has the full range of emotions, if I had to pick 1 album that fulfills everything I would need from an album to listen to again and again, this just may be the pick.

Antonio Sanches - Buli Povo! (Analog Africa Limited Edition Nr. 08)
78

Did he find a synth and use the hell out of it for 7 straight songs? Yes. Does it still rip? Yes.

100 gecs - 10,000 gecs
85

100 gecs fully embraces punk. This album is more cohesive and well written overall than its predecessor, but at the cost of coming back down to earth a bit. There are no more gimmicks to hide behind and you can’t write the songs off as memes, these are real tunes. Don’t get me wrong they are still zany as hell and songs like Frog on the Floor are still mostly jokes, but this time they have undertones of real life problems. This album is great, but I do walk away hoping they can ... read more

100 gecs - 1000 gecs

Now that I am a few years removed from the release of this album and it doesn’t seem nearly as jarring as when it released thanks to the rise of hyperpop in general and specifically Charli XCX, after relistening this album is still so boundary pushing and unique, but what I really find is that the stuff that was fun about it on its release has given way to some truly incredible music. When I first heard this I was most drawn by the Skrillex inspired bro step subs scattered in with ... read more
