Hey, to any reader: this little review turned more into a mini think piece than a review of this soundtrack - if you want the tl;dr, i think it's fine. Inoffensive ambient music that slightly annoys me from how I've heard the music
Okay thanks

The review:
Alpha is decent, nothing amazing but neither terrible for the ambient genre. Imo, it does it's job fine enough as a soundtrack music for minecraft, but imo, in either context as a standalone ambient album or an OST - is just incredibly inoffensive but a little barebones
I only slightly dislike (hence the 45 instead of a neutral 50) as I've personally heard a little too much of this that hearing subwoofers lullaby gets me instantly tweaking a little
I can see why people like it though, as it does have a very sentimental and inherently nostalgic quality to the music that regardless of my own sorta extreme neutrality on the music, does have it's moments of really elegant simple beauty. Maybe I'm a psychopath due to my inability to feel much of anything with this even with my own nostalgia & love for minecraft
I much prefer more of the beta tracks as well, though, Alpha is the more iconic of the two. The future Lena Raine & Samiel Aberg minecraft tracks too I personally prefer as well
Not sure why I do exactly tbh too, but the beta soundtrack actually makes me tear a little sometimes, but i'll save my more detailed thoughts for once if I ever review beta
A little note too: I don't think this is "overrated" or "overhyped", both these words should be burned. I see some folks on here griping on the high reviews on this for people being "blinded" by nostalgia which to me is stupid. If someone has a emotional attachment to music make the music, oh idk, enjoyable? Then yeah, it is. It's just enjoyable. It really isn't that deep or some agenda where everyone is apart of injoke like how everyone pretends the dress is somehow yellow and white
Now THAT is some crazy
Anyways, it's okay i guess
That's all,
8/10, we ♡ minecraft :

Little rant
Edit: And because I keep seeing negative reviews being weird asf about soundtracks on aoty and especially this one (something something nostalgia bias), I'll just make a VERY quick note on a topic I have a LOT to say about
Whether or not someone rates this on the basis as an album independent of it's context or attached it to its context originally - both ways of rating are OKAY, people can rate an experience in anyway they want and thats a good thing
Like I said before but to a greater extent here, if minecraft's nostalgia creates such a strong emotional bond with the music that a person can't help but elavate it higher, there will never be no numerical math or pseudo-science based rating system to say it's somehow "wrong" - music is more than just spinning an album front to back in a single setting and that's for the better
A soundtrack could be a bad piece on it's own as an album but still be excellent in it's OG context, it could be the complete other way around, or it could be both weak in both (which I think for minecraft here). It does not correlate, so any criticisms against other individual for "overrating" this soundtrack on the basis of "nostalgia bias" instead your own personal rating system just, doesn't make sense. Quit it
Anyways, sorry for that, apologise from future wrong order here - this soundtrack is still weak to me as an album and within minecraft itself, regardless, I hope this atleast illuminates my thoughts on this. Rate shit how you want art isn't a stem class
