ngl i was disappointed with the lack of depth of the songs at first listen; only I'm Just A Girl stood out as a clear mission statement for what FLO aims to achieve (that i actually want to listen to; there's no way i'm listening to Cynthia Erivo wax poetic in my playlists)
seeing em live helped me appreciate the production and vocal prowess though so it's not a complete letdown
you can tell that this was her first independent release cause this album has much more range than her other work tone and genre-wise
some songs were not that memorable for me (like idc for Love & Hate) but the title tracks really showcase her lyricism and vocal prowess (and can consistently make me emotional lol)
and i loved seeing her modern rnb side return with stillmissu and naughty train!!! i'm so excited to see what else she will produce moving forward^^
you can tell she was still finding herself here so other artists and producers are in the credits of most songs
but this was a really good first showing; i also loved the modern RnB aspects in songs like Yah! and You Know... (the lyrics for that song are questionable tho)
i'm glad she tapped back into that in her later work (like the dreamest) but that's a story for another album
i'm biased as hell but i really love her lyricism here
i think the album can lull if you're listening in one sitting but each song has its own charm and i still listen to these tracks all the time
so glad i learned of her from the FLO tour
love the witty lyrics and range of styles while still sounding super polished
