Modal Soul is if Dilla and Flying Lotus had a baby, and I wanna see that babys coronation. The beats are by far some of the best you'll hear when it comes to instumental hip hop, great use of samples and on the songs where there is actual rap, it's fire, such as Luv(sic.) pt. 3. There's a great amount of variation of this album while still staying on the same kind of music, if you like instrumentals? Sea of cloud. If you like samples? Reflection eternal. If you like rap? ... read more
This album truly shows Aaliyahs talent, the vocals on this are beautiful and nothing short of what you'd expect from the princess of R&B, what makes the vocals even more impressive is that Aaliyah was 15 at the time of this albums release. R Kellys production on it matches perfectly with Aaliyahs flow and is so pleasurable to listen to, I'd give this album a minimum of 85 but the background of this project makes it a bit disturbing to listen to knowing what happened between ... read more
Probably the best jazz fusion album I've listened to (and casiopea exists). There's just something about it, it has a certain charm to it that I can't get enough of. Cokumo Island is 9 minutes of straight euphoria, all usage of instruments in this album is elite, the overlaying is also wonderful.
An EXTREMELY underrated EP and artist, this and Ladi Dadi II are some of the cleanest underground jazz rap projects I've heard, "Mama Jay" has been on repeat for me for a few weeks now and I cannot stop listening to this EP. The production and engineering on it is surprisingly good, their usage of panning is very soothing and I heavily recommend this album to anybody who loves jazz rap just as much as me.
The original MMESYF was already perfect, and when the extended edition dropped, so did my pants. You could show this album to a baby and their first words would be "Denzel Curry is the most consistent rapper of all time", and babies haven't developed the ability to lie yet. He's not consistent with mediocrity like a lot of other artists, but he is consistent with constant peak, no project below an 8 and both MMESYF and ZUU can go up in the low-high 90s. The cold-blooded soul ... read more
Arguably my favorite piece of hip hop I've ever touched, the production, the vocals, the meaning, just the sound in general, is enough to make anyone on this earth, hell even on mars just fall in love with the sound of hip hop. Every track feels like it was crafted with soul, intellect and extreme care. Every word Mos says on this project speaks volumes, one of my favorites off the album "UMI Says" hits you deep in every way, the lyrics are simple yet unbelievably meaningful, ... read more
