Black metal this cavernous is a rare treat, and when Cold Light hits, it hits hard and with savagery. In tone, I enjoy it very much. It is unfortunate that it hits far too infrequently, with no tone able to disguise its weakness.
Cold Light aims to represent the "strong" US black metal sound. Tapping into deep themes of how modernization has ruined things and how we are no longer connected to a spiritual wellspring and left to look in the dark. Beyond those themes there seem to be some others that dance around some questionable influences. I would not say they represent the USBM as a whole, but a growing sector of artists giving it a good go, sometimes landing on shallow depths.
