"Scattering The Ashes" takes a little to get going as it opens with the sound of someone walking outside. Nice slow riff to set the atmosphere, the acoustic melody is a nice layer as the track develops. The nature sounds still present. It's a pretty long intro track though really.

You know what you're getting from this album if you're even vaguely familiar with the band, but it really had moments that impressed me. Especially the song April, that's easily my favorite song of the album.

The controversial Ukrainian outfit Drudkh returns with a familiar brand of atmospheric black metal, but this time it's executed as good as it ever was. Soaring guitar melodies are supported by crystal clear, but lively production, the atmosphere is absolutely nailed. Following suit with their previous few albums, this is another step up from where they had been the previous decade, and this is a particularly high water mark. This harkens back the days of Forgotten Legends and Autumn Aurora, but with its own unique spin on that particular atmosphere- this is not a mere revival of their early sound. This is prime material for both fans of old and new, and it is hard for me to imagine that they will come up with a new album that will top this...
