Microcosmos is a very delicate and balanced piece of Atmospheric Black Metal... with a big emphasis on the atmosphere. It's a thin fog that just sets a dreamy mood. A lurking beauty that is a bit unexpected revealing more layers as the play develops.
Drudkh seems to have taken some lessons from Autumn Aurora and decided to make their riffs more dynamic. The songwriting on this record cannot be understated, what a huge jump from the previous album. I used to not be *that* into the sound of this album, but man I've done a complete 180 turn.
Distant Cry of Cranes alone is enough to showcase how beautiful this album is. They managed to create such a stunning atmosphere while having some of the most emotionally loaded guitar parts.

Microcosmos displays a less straightforward approach to songwriting. Drudkh introduce more post-rock elements in their sound. What is more, bass takes a more prominent role here and there. Thus, it signifies a break with atmospheric black metal tradition and attempt to further develop their sounds. The results are mixed imo. Still good though.
