Functioning on Impatience allows all the classic metalcore chunky guitar riffage of it's day to go up against methodical and mathy breaks to produce a grindy and intriguing form of extreme music. Authentic to the bone and indicative of it's time without falling into some of it's pitfalls. Typically are really cheesy emo breaks or long stretches of spoken word that sound like teenage poetry.

A lot of modern mathcore/hardcore's tropes and cliches can be traced here, with churning metal riffs paired with hardcore attitudes and energy, squealing minor seconds, rapid-fire switch-ups and growling vocals that I still don't entirely enjoy too much.
But, as to be expected, the roots prove to be far richer than the branches, as there's still a lot of creativity and new things you can pick out from this album, several decades after its release.
