Split Chain’s authentic self is delightfully heavy and reassuringly human, via its musical execution and lyrics that explore the diabolical pressures exuded by ourselves and others. Oh, and it’s also a record that’s absolutely off the chain!
THE GENRE BATTLE
From Wikipedia.org: "Split Chain is an English Nu Metal band formed in Bristol in 2023 (...)".
Nu Metal?
The Nu-Metal Era was the most frustrating I've ever experienced musically.
Bands of the most diverse kinds have been lumped together under this classification.
Today, Metalcore is divided into countless subgenres.
Deathcore, born maybe as a subgenre of Metalcore, has in turn become a generator of subgenres, and it seems all it takes is for a band to add a ... read more
This is like if Superheaven and Korn had a baby
But without much of the eargasmic and/or hard-hitting songwriting
I wasn't familiar with Split Chain up until this point, and that is most likely because they're a new band and this is their first record.
What immediately struck me about this album was the production. The mixing, guitar tones and vocals sound really good here. So I decided to listen to the full thing. Turns out, the production quality kind of overshadows the actual ... read more
Another band in the Unreal-era My Ticket Home/Fleshwater/Narrow Head/Bleed/Moodring/ASkySoBlack/Superheaven wheelhouse. If you've heard any of those bands, then you know exactly what this sounds like already: Deftones. I so like that this has a bit of grit to it, there are some nu metalish moments that give Bleed vibes, but the rest just sounds so Unreal to me. It's only their first record, being indebted to your influences isn't necessarily a bad thing, but they're clinging ... read more
Sick!! This heavily reminds me of Deftones but like,, more shoegazey. Speaking of Deftones tho this shares a similar issue i have with Deftones and also Pinkerton by Weezer where it just feels like this can do more. With this however it clearly shows it's very capable of doing more, some tracks have really cool and interesting intros or outros so they could do more with structure and that's very clear. This is still really cool tho, the instrumentation on a lot of tracks is just ... read more
motionblur feels like a strong mix of some good old-school nu-metal, shoegaze with some emo influence thrown in.
It features your classic shoegaze distorted guitars along with hazy vocals for most of the album, which allows the more screaming parts to pack a bigger punch. It manages to achieve that perfect balance between aggression and dreamy atmosphere, which really reminded me of Deftones.
The album is dynamic enough that it doesn't ever feel the same, every song feels fresh. While ... read more
I mean god damn. deftones have inspired a generation of unstoppable bands like that other guy said, fleshwater is my favorite from those and probably my favorite band ever, they are in a completely different lane in everything, but this reminds me of them so much, so naturally I am so freaking happy about this. the pure and raw energy of this is something to look out for.
