Top notch production from DJ Shay on the majority of the album but great guest production from DJM80 and IceRocks. The minimalistic samples have a dusty, lofi feel from DJ Shay's superb technique for dark, grimy production. The slick bars have this album knocking hard and the hooks are pretty memorable, an aspect these emcees with mafioso type bears sometimes struggle with, but not Don Ricky. Plates is a decent underground grimy hip hop album with inconsistent production, hard-hitting bars, and rough hooks.

The “Intro” features a soulful beat with forlorn choral vocals and beautiful strings over which Rick gives some background about his life.
