Top notch production from DJ Shay on the majority of the album but great guest production from DJM80 and IceRocks. The minimalistic samples have a dusty, lofi feel from DJ Shay's superb technique for dark, grimy production. Plates is a decent underground grimy hip hop album with inconsistent production, hard-hitting bars, and rough hooks.
The “Intro” features a soulful beat with forlorn choral vocals and beautiful strings over which Rick gives some background about his life.
