Regardless, this is one of the best on Undertow. Crazy fill before the track even begins.
Self-loathing is a gut wrenching effect of depression, when you fall in that deep why not escape and self-destruct with drugs. That was the effect to what Maynard's friend told him about why he kept drinking and doing drugs all the time. Plus it helped him stay creative.
Sobriety is not for the faint of heart, but neither is addiction. Sobriety is like escaping a cocoon to become a butterfly.
Listen to this when you're self-loathing...one of the darkest explorations of that in music. Dark, hypnotic and full of pain. Undertow is one of those records that don't get as much love from Tool fans because its their debut and came before two masterpieces, but I think this song is incredible.
