At the end of the day, CO.WAR.DICE is a triumphant return for Marmozets. Its infectious energy, danceable choruses, and overall high level of musicianship all contribute to this being one of my favorite comeback albums in recent memory.

Poppier but also more mature than before, Marmozets execute their frenetic, catchy punk with gusto and aplomb, especially on A Kiss From A Mother, Cut Back and the epic seven-plus minute finale of Keep Going Darling.

Trimmed to a quartet of Becca Bottomly (vox), her husband and two brothers, Marmozets return after a seven-year hiatus with a third post-EDM-rock-by-numbers production 'inspired by The Cramps and Devo'. Which bits? We wonder, perplexed. Is it commercial? To a fault.

Marmozets embrace the chaos on CO.War.Dice., but perhaps they underestimate the ability for it to slip from their grasp, at least to an extent. Make no mistake, there are some tracks on this record with palpable energy, with some rhythmic ambiance and some intriguing penmanship, but there are certainly fissures in the written process that produced this record. I wasn't expecting them reaching the top level of their debut, so there's no surprise on that side. At least I prefer this one over their previous one. As an album I don't see myself coming back to it, but there are some songs that I quite liked.
It works in some places doesn't in others it leans more good than bad but doesn't fully stick.
