This album is touted as Madness's most mature album to date. I suppose that's code for a huge helping of Debbie Downer-ism. If that's maturity, then bring back the carnival-organ ska-obsessed Madness back post-haste. Grey Day and Shut Up did not stand out to me as single choices. Cardiac Arrest was more memorable. There's still decent slice-of-life stories being told, but the songs feel slight - too few lyrics repeated.

Well after revisiting the relatively mixed bag of their sophomore album, we now come to their third album, 7.
Before I start, I'd like to mention the cover of Labi Siffre's 'It Must Be Love'. This was a non-album single released at the time, but has since been included on reissues. The song is a fantastic cover, and surpasses the original.
