I jumped ahead 5 years into the Madness catalog to Keep Moving coming from an album I really enjoy (One Step Beyond). The only thing that comes to mind here is, keep moving…to something else. Holy moly this album is just amazing, not only by Madness standards but just anything standards. Every single song is catchy in some way and to summarise the whole thing in just one phrase it would be “it’s a good time”, insanely underrated.
Madness were releasing better tracks as stand-alone singles than what was on their albums at this point. Michael Caine is distinctive solely for Caine lending his voice to it. The stories are less impactful and funny, and more dreary at this stage. It's still of a similar quality, but the songs feel pushed out beyond their means more than ever - an idea doesn't always need to be a 4 minute song, especially for Madness. Victoria Gardens and the title track are the best of the lot here.
