Eugene McGuiness is, to these ears at least, a bold and confident piece of brilliance, equally off kilter as it is tenderly raw.
Though more mature an effort than his doleful debut, this follow-up still suffers from McGuinness’ over-experimentation. Far too often, what appears an interesting melody is twisted out of all shape by the artist trying to incorporate too much falsetto, chord changes, or complex instrumentation.
