One doesn’t have to stretch to say that Evermotion is an album that takes a few listens to really sink in, but when it does, the power is real, and all the more clever for how these insightful bits and pieces are woven into each song.
Kudos to the group for deciding to do a little remodeling, but it might behoove them to keep the original floor plans, as the current arrangement feels a little out of character.
What we’re left with is a somewhat novel approach that’s bolstered by improved songwriting, but ruined by a sheer lack of direction – or anything interesting to say.
Yeah, this was a super mega disappointment. I said 'Goldfly' was a rare dud as a project, but 'Evermotion' is easily the worst Guster album.
And it isn't a case of an old shtick or rehashed ideas to the point of boredom; in fact, a more modern sound is adopted here, with a perceived sense of dramatic change from the opening cut 'Long Night', but really that's the only track I really cared for here. The beginning of the end I like simple machine but the rest of the album falls painfully flat
This is some of Guster's best production (that I've heard), and it goes well with the band's ability to make effortlessly catchy hooks. The worst song on this album still has me nodding my head. In a few areas I think the vocal performance could've benefitted from doing another take or two, but still a very solid album with a lot of good tracks that I plan to come back to. There really isn't much more to say about it. Good music that makes me happy.
