Every track sounds like it has been meticulously crafted to perfection ... This album is utterly flawless.

”Now” represents a velvet-lined gauntlet thrown at the feet of today’s bling-bling-obsessed R&B pack.

If only his songs were as memorable as his sounds! True, Now is more song-centric than his previous releases, barring possibly his debut, but this is still well-crafted mood music in which the overall seductive sound matters more than what he's saying specifically.

This third full-length album continues to mine past gold, integrate rock and jazz elements, and work Maxwell's beautifully supple vocals around old-school styles.

Much like Sade’s Lovers Rock, Maxwell’s third studio effort, Now, faithfully delivers more of the same.

This album feels like a smooth and groovy black party. Everything from the singing to the instruments and little background melodies is perfect, It reminds me of mama's gun and voodoo a bit, but this album is even groovier, and I didn't feel bored throughout the entire listen.
Favorite tracks: Get to know ya, NoOne, Silently, Now/at the party

The earlier records had the energy of young adulthood, full of flirting, desire and a kind of carefree sensuality. 'Now' feels like the grown up ... read more

Now was Maxwell’s way of returning to a more current style of RnB. While Embrya was extremely experimental, Now was more marketable and mainstream. Though that’s not to say that this album is basic, because songs like “W/As My Girl” or “For Lovers Only” have great folk / country fusions. Moreover, the slower tracks are much stronger on this record, and many of the more upbeat tracks aren’t necessarily dated, they just don’t carry the same weight. ... read more
