I recently watched Grease and, while I hated every single scene and performance in it due to how utterly exaggerated and slapstick they were based on today’s standards, I at least appreciated that every actor felt completely engaged in the character they were playing and sold it off perfectly - even if it was just filled with stereotypes on top of accidental social commentary. I'm having a hard time being totally satisfied with this one, knowing it's a cover album, but I won't pretend that it really negatively affected my listening experience since I had never heard any of these songs before. And these songs are actually all pretty good! Joy's debut is nostalgic and well joyful really. It isn't the most groundbreaking project but it is so warm and inviting due to her beautiful fresh vocals.

Joy’s voice is perfect for a remake project like this though; her tone is instantly recognisable and has a timeless quality to it. She has the power of making everything sound very nostalgic, which serves a project like this well.

The EP has a sweet and lovely feel to it. The title track, “Hello”, is a true feel-good song. The combination of soaring ... read more
