What sounds meaningful reads like jabberwocky. But at least "Singers" will help Microphones devotees-- feeling a bit maligned lately-- start listening again.

Laaaaa La La La laaaaa

Phil Elverum took a second away from his Mount Eerie name to start a little side project, and this album is the end result of that. It’s very much focused on group vocals, and some very nice lush instrumentation and iconic acoustic guitars. It’s pretty good! I don’t find it to be his absolute best material but there’s a lot to like here. This album honestly just has a lot of charm. I genuinely do think the backing vocals add a lot. Uh Oh, ... read more

Reviewing Every Phil Elverum Project Available (30/61)

I'm halfway done with this challenge!!! Yayyy!!! The second studio album of 2005 came in the way of Singers, a record from Phil that, while not bringing the strongest set of songs I've ever seen, adds something valuable to the Phil cannon. Something of an oddball side-release for Elverum amidst changing lanes- the choir production is pleasant for sure

Phil Elevrum discography run-Part 10
Such an underrated album in his discography. The lyrics are pretty simple but really beautiful and quite emotional at times, especially the choral parts. The instrumentals are very stripped back for the majority of the time, which lets the choral elements and lyrics take the focus. The tracklist is very consistent with maybe one skip but also 4-5 standouts, it’s just a bit short. Overall, great album.
