Permanent was the third Joy Division compilation to be released, but unlike Still (which brought together studio leftovers and the band's last show) and Substance (which compiled all singles and B-sides), this was the first to also include album tracks.
The result could have been more satisfactory. There are four problems: 1) remastering is too loud; 2) although it contains 4 good picks from Closer, only 3 songs from Unknown Pleasures were chosen, with the essentials "Disorder" and ... read more
