Culprate's debut LP is an impressive exercise in the genre that birthed brostep and riddim: tearout. The weighty basslines pair wonderfully with the detailed percussion and sparse synthlines, leading to a harsher version of the sounds of the dubstep of the 2000s. The mixing on this record as well is quite impressive for 2011, with most of the electronics here coming through crystal-clear.

While I've seen this called dubstep, I don't think that really covers the scope of this project. This is some proper semi-experimental electronic music with heavy influences from early brostep and IDM. While the sound palate does get old after about three-fourths of the album, it's a nice sound to have drag out a little, and I can easily see why it does this, with the shortest song being just under five minutes and the longest being over seven.
