On his most ambitious set (and best since 1996’s Songs of a Dead Dreamer), he keeps the texts brief, teaming up with nu-jazz gurus William Parker and Matthew Shipp–among others–for a record that morphs subtly between hip-hop abstraction and unalloyed free-improv exploration.
this is definetly a weird experience. it's so well crafted and put-together. it blends every genre that it touches with such an ease that most of the times it sounds like a live band playing those sounds with a little crazy guy in the background making the electronic noises. nice to hear something from the turntablism movement and like it so much. Optometry may not be as great as other masterpieces from the genre, but damn, it's great, really great.
Back to back 95’s again and that’s because this album just so happened to be incredible. Optometry is an excellent Nu Jazz album from DJ Spooky that blends in Illbient, Avant-Garde Jazz, and Turntablism. The jazz arrangements on this album are wonderful and them being sometimes intertwined with Illbient production can even make them better. Album tremendamente complejo y eclectico que aborda la electronica, el jazz, el hip hop... y hasta la musica de camara. Colosal trabajo. Destaco "Parachtes" y "It´s a mad, mad, mad world".
