Yes, I watched Death Note. How could you tell?
What I love about this album is how fun and upbeat it is. The band didn't feel constrained at all here: they approached the songwriting with passion. They can easily switch from a heavy sound, which is typical for metal, post-hardcore or punk, to a light rock sound (especially in the choruses). And it can all be within the same song. Surprisingly, it works. It doesn't feel forced, everything sounds in perfect harmony (so to speak). ... read more
This album recently got some traction thanks to a Chainsaw Man character (did she beat the grooming/SA allegations, I haven't read the manga in a while) karaoke singing ChuChu Lovely MuniMuni MuraMura PrinPrin Boron Nururu ReroRero. So, I get to going through the album and - IS THAT THE DEATH NOTE OPENING NO. 2? How did I not know this, that's one of my favourite OP's ever.
Anyway, back to the review. Buiikikaesu is the bonkers, feral and abrasive kind of metal that Japanese are known for. ... read more
Really cool genre blends, it was slightly tacky sometimes but it worked most of the time in the end
System of a Down if they were anime
This album is fucking wild. It's got Nu-Metal, Pop Punk and a little bit of Funk Metal, yet everything seems to fit in perfectly despite it's absurdity throughout the album. Take System of a Down, a little bit of Jeff Rosenstock, and fuck it, maybe even some Primus, make them Japanese and fuse all of them and you have this eclectic son of a bitch album. There is so much energy present in this album, it's insane. I feel like this band, collectively possesses ... read more
It's been a while since I've had this much fun with a record!
I honestly loved almost everything about this album. When I read "nu-metal" in the genres, I wasn't sure if I'd love this album or not because I was afraid it would be too generic. Well, it's the complete opposite of what I was expecting. This album is insane! It mixes so many genres like the aforementioned nu-metal, avant-garde metal, pop punk, j-rock, and more, bringing it all together in a super ... read more
This was so much fun.
I, like many others, heard of MTH from the crossroads of two of my favorite things, SoaD, and Death Note, and this did NOT disappoint.
This thing has such an infectious energy around it. It is humanly impossible to sit through this whole thing without a big dumb smile on your face. This record is so much fun, front to back.
But, fun doesn’t always translate to incredible music, there’s a lot of albums I think are fun that don’t get an 85. But, luckily, ... read more
this is so fucking weird,, like wtf is going on????
It's no secret that I fucking despise pop punk, it usually just comes off as tremendously annoying, but this album did it pretty well. i mean, you cant do pop punk well, but this is probably the best use of pop punk i can think of lol :3
i do fw the funk metal aspects of this a LOT though :3c

DAY 2: A nu metal album you've never heard before
MAXIMUM THE HORMONE is a band I was only ever vaguely aware of from their work on the second Death Note opening, but holy FUCK did this album not disappoint. The comparisons with SOAD are obvious as many have already pointed out, but MTH makes good use of their genre fusions to set out a different style, far more influenced by punk and rap than their contemporaries- alongside incorporating classic J-Rock ... read more
okay damn this is better than i expected, they kind of remind me of System Of A Down sometimes, and i fkn love SOAD. thoroughly enjoyed
thank you @MarkyMark132! Uhhh it's fine, the vocals are a bit annoying but to be honest this is basically japanese SOAD so isolating the vocals from the melodies is a bit dumb, and all together kinda work so yeah. The album feels a bit too polished, some of this tracks are a bit too formulaic for me but even then i do think there is a balance between being out there and sticking to a formula that is archieved on this project in a fairly satisfactory way, doubt ill comeback to it much but ... read more
This is not what I was expecting as I have heard one of their albums a while ago and I really liked that one then but this one I thought was good but I didn’t enjoy it as much as their other one. There was some really good moments in here throughout but nothing compared to their other album which was disappointing and I didn’t like the vocals on here as much as I remember from their other album and juts everything was downgrade from what I remember.
Fav song: None
Least fav: None
It has some top tier metal tracks at the beggining and ending but it isn't the most consistent, despite that there isn't any track i didn't enjoy or that disrupted the energy of the album its an overall amazing effort with great vocals, great riffs and overall instrumentation that despite it being really tacky its a really cool listen and just a great album.

Albums that have anime openings in them, 1/50
Anime it opened for: Death Note. (and Akagi too i guess)
I thought it would be fun to review a bunch of albums that have anime openings on them, or that I've discovered thanks to anime. And, so to start this endeavor, I picked this Maximum the Hormone album that has the double whammy of having 2 tracks from an anime. having an opening and ending to the relatively famous, non battle battle manga Death Note. Now while, my feelings towards Death Note ... read more

Metal album a day until the new converge drops, Day #29
Just a fun album all around, not a moment on here where I found myself bored or unintrested on whatever crazy shit was going on.
if chaos was an album.
Edit (was 95): Im sorry but this album constantly keeps you up, takes risks, and is the most fun to be had on a metal album, they always try new sounds and it fails to ever bore me, this album is a 10 and it shocks me how little appreciation MAXIMUM THE HORMONE get.
Who’s here from Death Note?
To be honest I only came here because of “What’s up, people?”, but I stayed for the whole album, it’s pretty good. This has such an energetic, upbeat and fast paced albums I’ve heard, and I love it. The energy, the vibes, all of it is an electric feel. Overall, very good.
Best: What’s up, people?

album swap with @ggollihue !!! 5/5 FINAL ONE!!
im sat here twiddling my thumbs questioning why this didn't click with me. and then i remember that nu-metal is really not my preference when it comes to metal music. i very much prefer more classic stylings or more hardcore sounds. so this album could be other people's cup of tea, just not mine :/
but beside that, there were some really interesting moments on this tracklist, probably the big one being "what's up ... read more
