For their second album, Write In, English trio Happyness reach back into the sweet-dreamy sound they established on 2015's Weird Little Birthday, but emerge with a touch more serious, consistently reflective tone.

Overall, ‘Write In’ shows that, beneath their more leftfield influences, Happyness have it in them to be classic songwriters of considerable skill. Right on.
No Ripcord
It’s actually the perfect apotheosis of what a band like Happyness pursues: loose, steady-rolling songs speckled with little production and songwriting quirks that add into a meaningful whole. There’s a striking familiarity to it all, as if they’re playing a highlight reel of all your past favorite music moments rolled up into one single memory.
The Skinny
While it feels somewhat more grown up, the trio have retained much of their spontaneous charm with this new release.
‘Write In’ is far from ground-breaking, but its slickness, its aloofness and its array of fine-tuned indie tunes will turn any curious cat into a happy camper. Nothing pretentious here, just pure Happyness.
Under The Radar

Write In is serious song crafting from a playful group.

The 405

Write In sees them continuing to demonstrate just how deceptively subtle their shifts in sound and approach can be, and the depth of their songcraft reveals itself over repeated listens in ways it never did before.

Loud and Quiet
There’s certainly room to grow, but Jon, Benji and Ash have proven themselves to be some of the finer songwriters in what’s a crowded scene, and if this album is anything to go by, in the future we’ll witness them explore even more weird and wonderful places.
Drowned in Sound

True to their name (aside form it being an auto correct nightmare) they put a smile on your face, the kind you get when you feel pleasantly tipsy. Many bands have attempted to capture the appeal of college rock at its hight, but Happyness are perhaps the first that don’t leave you merely wanting to dust off your old Pavement records. Write In will do nicely.
