After being impressed by Abriction on the split EP with Sadness I knew I had to check out their album for the year as well and although I wouldn't say im swept up in the hype just yet, I do believe there is potential here.

The main drawback for me is the length of these songs. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE long songs, some of my favorite songs are over 10 minutes in length. The issue, however, is that those songs either :

a) Have gorgeous atmospheres to sink myself into

This is a lovely and sometimes violent record that blends blackgaze and Post-Rock in such a cohesive and well though out way. Fans of Sunbather will love the abrasive guitars and incoherent screams, while GY!BE fans will enjoy the more drawn out and atmospheric direction that certain tracks favour over others. Unfortunately Interstates disregards a lot of conventional ways of representing shoegaze and instead decides to deliver a long record full of many cuts that tend to meander to nowhere.

While many tracks on "Interstates" can feel overly spacious and drawn out to the point of overstaying their welcome, it would be remiss to overlook the incredible heights and standout moments abriction delivers throughout the project.

Started really strong, I loved the first two tracks, but then I got so booooored

interstates is pleasant, pretty, at times beautiful, but otherwise disappointingly empty album.

"stargazing" and "rose gold" are the album's main highlights, the second easily being the best usage of the album's tendency towards very drawn out atmospherics. unfortunately after that all the album's momentum and direction is sucked right out of it and it moves from slightly aimless to very aimless.
