In the realm of Power/Pop Metal, there are few who do it better than Amaranthe in my opinion. I discovered the Swedish group after their 2020 release, Manifest. It had everything I wanted from this style of metal, big hooks and choruses, bouncy riffs with a modern flair that was a bit cheesy but still fun and loaded with energy. Also, the blend of harsh vocals added a needed touch of attitude.

Hollow, boring, and sometimes annoying, “The Catalyst” isn’t good. Which is on brand for Amaranthe. This album seems to have more electronic elements compared to their earlier stuff, but I feel like it’s just used to show how unoriginal and lame the rest of the instrumentals are. The title track is a highlight, and the chorus on “Breaking the Waves” is good, but that’s it. This album is bad.
