On Echo Dancing, Alejandro Escovedo’s musical personality shines, from romantic balladeer to nefarious punk, from heartland messiah to experimental maven.
This album feels so stilted in what it actually wants to accomplish. Often going for weird and obscure sounds to the point where a lot of the songs end up being the audio equivalent of him making a scrapbook of all his favorite rock stars and singers (namely Bob Dylan, Elvis Presley & Jimmy Buffett). A thrilling reinterpretation of his catalog. Not every song (or even most) is "better" but the overall vibe of the album is pristine. A great work from a legend.
