As with Parallel World, and really his entire discography, Pemberton skillfully writes about relevant subject matter while maintaining his distinctive wit, as well as his ear for advanced, boundary-shattering production.

When I last covered Canadian rapper Cadence Weapon in 2021 for his album Parallel World, I remember really liking his socially and politically charged content but feeling a bit distant from the execution, where the minimalist, jagged electronics mostly worked to accentuate his dystopian paranoia but didn’t quite feel as distinctly striking as it could, I kept feeling like the sound could better match the content’s intensity. Cadence Weapon is pretty insightful into topics surrounding the internet but his sound is not for me. His projects branch out a lot from just plain hip hop, but I think the hip hop is where his style works best.
