Fiction is an excellent demonstration of the modern prog-rock sound. Syncatto is the solo project of Charlie Robbins, a guitarist I have been following for a while now and his songwriting and technique are very fresh. The album is creative, modern, and features many sticky and ear-perking lines. Fiction is worth checking out (especially for guitarists and musicians). Plus, Jordan Rudess is on this album!!
I envision a near future where we have an AI that shits out sub-par Polyphia songs on demand, rendering albums like this completely redundant. I really don't see the point of making music that sounds exactly like another band that isn't even particularly good to begin with.
While I don’t think this album is anything special, it does a good job at what it is. Charlie Robbins’ musical style makes this album unique and differentiates it from bands like Polyphia. Definitely not for everyone, but I found it quite enjoyable to put on in the background.
