It's crazy to see the huge contrast between David Crowder Band's latest album I reviewed this morning and his most recent solo album 'The EXILE'. Sadly, this feels very run-of-the-mill, overproduced and uninspired. The EXILE throws quite some heaviness and guitar in the mix compared to the previous gospel inspired album 'Milk and Honey', but these new ideas feel very forced. Crowder is an artist I have a good deal of respect for, as I feel like he typically tries to innovate and push the boundaries of what Christian music can be. Unfortunately, this new album doesn't really do that. While this album does have it's nice moments, it never quite reaches the highs of previous records he's put out. Songs like Hands Of Jesus, Still, or Somebody Prayed fall into the bland CCM camp, and other songs like Graverobber or Lord of All are more interesting but still watered down ... read more
