I love intricate, sample-heavy hip-hop production as much as anyone, but on a personal beat tape like this, it’s fascinating seeing Blockhead build his sound from the ground up with instrumental loops and repeated phrases. Whether based in percussion, strings, or another instrument, his beats are always centered around a looping sequence that has layers added and removed throughout the track’s progression.

Even if I prefer last year's 'The Aux' for how it brought together some of the biggest and best underground rappers all in one project, I think it's great that Blockhead is taking it back to the quirky, almost cartoonish style which he is best known for on his latest instrumental project. The result is a consistent tracklist including career highlight beats like 'Homeward Browned Out' and 'Oh You Fancy'.
