A good record with great vocals and with a broad range of subjects sung about. Unfortunately time and tide always seems to keep at a steady pace, with several songs that sound similar, not usually going outside my expectations.I imagine if Split Enz leaned into the more frenetic parts of their sound it would make a it much better album. Not a bad listen, but not something i’d revisit. Thanks to MusicallyL for the rec!
Split Enz are on a good roll here. First, True Colours, a small masterpiece and landmark for New Zealand music and new wave as a whole, then the weaker but also very good Waiata and now this, Time And Tide. Album three of the 80s by them, album three that i heard by them, album three that is 80+ rated. Split Enz so far are proving to be a big gem.
