Kate Bush - Aerial
80

3 days after I was born, Kate Bush returned from a 12-year hiatus—every bit as raw.

Kate Bush - The Sensual World
86

Kate Bush at her most sensual—absolutely stunning.

Kate Bush - The Dreaming
84

The things she can do with her voice... just... wow.

The title track is no less amazing.

Avalon Emerson - Written into Changes
78

Fun, much livelier and more unique than her debut.

For me, it felt like driving through the rural Midwest.

Fleshwater - 2000: In Search of the Endless Sky
78

66 -> 78

Grew on me substantially in one sitting.

Enigma - MCMXC a.D.
88

An all-encompassing experience that, upon release, transports you both backward and forward through time simultaneously.

The Crystal Method - Vegas
78

One of many landmarks on the road to modern breakbeat.

Frou Frou - Details
88

Which one of you rascals wet my pants?

Searows - Death in the Business of Whaling
82

Some of my favorite vocal performances from Alec, matched by cinematic instrumentation that remarkably transports you to the shipwrecked remains of Peter Iredale.

Otto Benson - Peanut
80

Profoundly pleasant and serene—the latter more than recent memory.

Bruno Pernadas - unlikely, maybe
84

I'm not entirely sure what came over me leading up to this release, but part of me was worried it would not hold up to Bruno’s past work. Maybe it's the cover art, the singles among some of my least favorite tracks on the album, or maybe I just thought you can't strike gold twice.

A mistake on my part, to be sure—because this album is AMAZING!

I always admire the amount of work Bruno puts into these tracks, whether it be composition, collaboration, what I can only ... read more

Boko Yout - GUSTO
80

Having early on stumbled into title track "GUSTO" (as well as its accompanying music video), I was undoubtedly enthralled by Paul Adamah's energetic performance and commanding vocal delivery. I'll never know why I hadn't looked closer then, but doing so now has relieved me greatly of a certain rut that is uninspired music—the blurring of unique artistry and the rise of an overall "midness" that many seem to feel right now.

Boko Yout shows their range ... read more

Slowdive - Souvlaki
68

Baby’s first dream pop.

72

What's most interesting about this album is its immediate growth on subsequent re-listens.

Once you understand both atmosphere and stylistic choices this album is making, you'll find it does them quite well.

Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want To Turn Into You: Everasking Edition
78

Hiding the best track on the reissue, are we?

I’d recognize Porta Pros anywhere Caroline.

Caroline Polachek - Desire, I Want to Turn Into You
76

I can hear the Imogen Heap influence.
