It was recommended that I listen to 2 first, but I will listen to 1 at some point. Anyway, really amazing record. I love this style of jazz, and coltrane makes 2 19+ minute tracks really easy to get through. As with most free jazz, I'm going to need to give this more listens. Highlights include: Part 1 and Part 2.
Would be the best clipping album and like a 9/10 without that stupid piano outro.
(OG score 51)The highs can make up for the lows. The noisy-punk-rap stuff is really entertaining, but it is clear that this album is a little visionless. They throw together awesome singular tracks, but it doesn't come together for an entire experience all that well. And words can't convey how dismal the tracks 'Tonight' and 'Dominoes' are. The hookwriting can still be entertaining here, even if it would go on to be much better. And obviously the verses match the eerie production well. ... read more
Masterpiece. I don't need to say anymore. Highlights include the whole thing.
Damn fucking good. Absolutely brutal everything. On any other record, the drumming/vocals/riffs here would be a clear standout, but they are brought together to make a beautiful and disgusting package. The screams here are bone-chilling, and the samples are frankly disturbing. I have been thoroughly nuked. Highlights include the entire record.
(OG score 67) I was wrong. This has no misses, and represents the best of post MBDTF Kanye. This album has a shotgun spread of ideas which are completely uncohesive, but also completely genius. Some of Kanyes catchiest and most heartfelt songs appear here, and the feature performances are genuinely amazing, with Desiigner on Freestyle 4, Sampha on Saint Pablo, and The Weeknd on FML being the heaviest hitters. It pisses me off that the only flaws I can find on this album include the weird drums ... read more
Bruiser Wolf is a damn funny guy. He delivers these songs like a stand-up comedy routine, and it works flawlessly. Seriously, I doubt I'm going to enjoy a rap performance more this year. However, while a lot of the beats are simple modern boom bap style, the more trap styling leave Wolf with not a lot to work with. On top of this, the only feature that is worth hearing is Danny Brown, with the rest feeling like stealing time from the main event. Overall, a fantastic performance from a rapper I ... read more
A lot of repetitive pop songs that blend into each other. EE has been supremely hyped up, so a couple of good pop songs left me disappointed. That being said, City Song and Enter the Mirror are certainly being considered for some of the best alt-pop of the year. I won't be upset to hear this on the radio, but I'm certainly not going to be doing any serious repeated listening. Highlights include "City Song."
Supremely boring. I suppose the poppier tracks are fun, and I appreciate the diss song. I just hate talking about post-2018 J. Cole. Highlights include "Pi" and "Seven Minute Drill."
While the album may bring technical ability, the lyrics and vocals are so over the top it makes it hard to take anything seriously. I hate to dislike an album because of this, but the album is simply too corny to enjoy. No highlights to name.
Though I might regret saying this, this is the best Beatles album. It is a true sampling plate of experimentation and pop stylings, with its imperfections only making it stronger. We go from catchy fun like USSR, Bungalow Bill, and Helter Skelter to acoustic crooning ballads like Blackbird and Yer Blues. In truth, the only true 'misses' on this album (Wild Honey Pie and Revolution 9) make what surrounds them better. Too many highlights to name.
This is what this album sounds like: https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/aesthetics/images/c/cf/Phish.jpeg
Highlights include "The Martin Show!!" and "Dough-Nuts Town's Map."
My first listen to a 21 Pilots album, and I am thoroughly unimpressed. The rapping gets unbearably awful at times, and the production completely falls flat in terms of coherence in the deep cuts. However, this is a million-dollar pop record, so the squeaky-clean singles do make pretty good jams, and honestly are some of the more respectable pop tunes to come out this year. Overall, an inconsistent project that I can't see myself revisiting outside of a handful of singles. Highlights include ... read more
Fun hardcore record that, while punchy, gets dragged down by vocals which don't really match the brutal instrumentation at times, but when they DO get angry, it's quite fun. I can't really complain too much with a 16-minute runtime though. Highlights include "Exterminate."
Incredibly inspired art-pop, which is able to manage being ridiculously catchy without sacrificing lyrical content and artistic vision. St. Vincent's goals are clear here, which leads to a tight track list that zooms by. The funny and grim lyricism goes well with the instrumentation, which is simply gorgeous. Despite being minimalistic, it is able to be perfectly interesting, with poppy orchestral arrangements and sparse pianos' making this a rewarding project to relisten to. In spite of this, ... read more
Original Review (61 score): Ridiculously inspired by early 2010s pop, which at this point is so uninteresting it just makes this album drag on and on. The pop elements do not jive super well with the experimentation as well. Despite all this, I can see a good number of songs that I intend on returning to (mainly the ones that are just trying to be catchy). Highlights include "White Mercedes," "Click," and "Next Level Charli."
Update:This is fantastic actually. The ... read more
A super fun record, though at points it feels as if it is simply going through the motions. The guitar playing is easily the highlight here, making up for the occasional lack of delivery and seemingly confused structure. This record would improve immensely without the 2-3 last song, which feels like a complete denial of the snappy and to-the-point first side of the record. Overall, excited to see how Clark improves as one of the few innovators in the blues space as of now. The lyrics add a ... read more
