Magdalena Bay - Imaginal Disk
98

It's quite hard to start a review on an album like this, not only because there are so many things one can say about this album, but also because even after months of being out, this project has left me speechless ever since. Without a doubt, this is one of the best bodies of art music has offered us in the 21st century, across all genres.

My introduction to Magdalena Bay occurred in 2022. I listened to Mercurial world and got very little from it, not because of the content of the album, ... read more

Travis Scott - Rodeo
85

I feel like "Rodeo" is one of those rare albums that's hard to dislike if you're a fan of trap, southern hip hop, or sort of neo-psych rap music in general. It's definitely hard to attach a specific genre to this album; while it has many elements of your typical trap song (drums, lyrical content, autotune, etc.), Rodeo also breaks many of these barriers, as well as focusing on evolving many aspects in the same space, like song structure, use of different instruments, ... read more

Lupe Fiasco - Samurai
91

Samurai by Lupe Fiasco is another one of those "nostalgic" albums for me in this point of my life. It's so incredibly important to me, due to the fact that THIS was how I battled thoughts of self harm, self worth, etc. This couldn't have came out at a better time. With that said, it's important to note that at this point, I have not fully listened to any other Lupe album in its entirety at this point. I've delved into other songs from him (Dots&Lines, Mural, ... read more

Vince Staples - Dark Times
82

Not only do I think this is Vince's most sonically pleasing, most cohesive and deepest album he's made, but it's also an extremely nostalgic album for me as well. Of course, the album is only a couple months old at this point, there's just a certain quality music can give off that can FEEL like the familiar, while remaining completely unknown. I was going through the hardest time of my life when this came out, and those experiences are going to be carried with me forever. ... read more

Literally got the wind knocked out of me when I first listened to this

89

Listened to a lot of this album YEARS ago, and I vividly remember "understanding" where the music was coming from, but not necessarily enjoying what I was listening to. When I finally rediscovered Death Grips, "The Money Store" scratched an itch I never knew I had.

"Get Got" is a great opener with a lot of energy from Ride, as well as producers Andy Morin and Zach Hill. I think it drags for a BIT too long, but serves its purpose incredibly well.

King Crimson - In the Court of the Crimson King
94

Discovering this album was a true blessing. The entire time listening to this album for the first time almost makes you question what you already know about music in general. You can definitely tell that each of the members of King Crimson truly took their time with every instrument, every break, everything.

"21st Century Schizoid Man" sounds like 60's jazz with the inclusions of their brass sections, all while reminding the listener that this album will continue to impress. Drums ... read more
