i'd never listened to jessica pratt until i tried this album and i haven't gone a day without listening to it since. it's connected with me unlike anything i've heard before. i completely understand how some may not get as much out of it as i do or much at all, but the way that she uses vocal melody, manipulation, and harmony and combines it with this subtly jazzy instrumentation and ambient engineering is something that just sounds like it was made perfectly for my ears every time i listen. ... read more
an expressive and dynamic record from charli that's fun when it wants to be, which is most of the time.
the greatest contemporary jazz musician there is brings us a danceable, multi-faceted set of impassioned performances, intricate solos, funky grooves, and musical atmospheres that make me have to try to sit still to appreciate their beauty.
this project finds a way to simultaneously snapshot a moment in history meticulously down to its finest details and yet feel so infinite, so permanently grounded in the passing of time; permanently existent and ever present. it is a gift that will never stop giving and it is a cautionary tale that i could never forget.
striking, captivating sonics and poignant, melancholic commentary; some aspects may not be for everyone, but this is a project i can see growing on me as i continue to get lost in it and peel back the layers.
i've found some enjoyment in most things willow's done, but only to a certain degree up until this point. things have always seemed too inconsistent or not quite right or one step away for me to fully buy in and look at her as an artist operating in the now and not the future. her potential has been so high and i feel that with every release i was largely left thinking okay, but what else?
this is what else. regardless of what other genres or soundscapes she'll probably find ... read more
rating is just for the deluxe, does not factor the original album tracks.
i like trippie redd. yes he's had a few duds and himself admitted he prioritizes quantity over quality, but i'd genuinely say i've enjoyed a majority of his career output up to this point. this is the worst musical creation trippie redd has ever been a part of. he couldn't save this and i really don't think anyone could've. the other guy on this project is one of the most unlikable musical artists to ever live and a collab album with him comes off more like self sabotage than anything.

overproduced, whiny, cringe, pretentious rock music. one of my least favorite genres.
"i'm marilyn monroe but the modern day"
"your hips is making me hypnotized"
"i heard you taste like cotton candy baby im just tryna see"
"you a whole bag, let it all unpack"
"you the password, imma hit reset"
"sometimes you gotta put the car in reverse to move forward"
there are about 7 minutes of this 77 minute album that are at all worth listening to. this made me sad.
this album is amazing before learning anything about its context. once you do, however, it can be life changing.
side a (tracks 1-5) is a documentation and sonic depiction of his pilgrimage to the wilderness of Manaus, Amazonas and what he was able to learn of the indigenous Sateré Mawé peoples and the way they interact with and understand the earth and nature's relationship with humans.
side b (6-9) is an expansion of the ideas of those connections through jazz and a display of ... read more
i've been a brockhampton fan since saturation 1 in 2017 and never once since the day i discovered the group did i think that a solo album by matt champion would have the profound impact on me that this has, and for that i owe him a personal apology. i've been listening to him be a strong contributor to a group for years, but never once has his artistry translated on this level. i understand how some could see this as a regular good project or even just ok, but there are points where it feels ... read more
rating is for the 5 new tracks only, not the entire thing all together. for the record though, while the album was already great, it would be a lot better if these were on it originally. this rocks. great deluxe from o rod.
an album that boasts some of the most gorgeous instrumentation of the year, but overall feels confused for most of its runtime. a lot of great ideas that aren't ever fully realized.
favorite tracks: For M., Philautia
least favorite tracks: Sinner, Storge
i've said it for years, but adrianne lenker is one of the greatest songwriters on the planet for one primary reason: she is able to capture human emotion in its purest essence in a way that no one else can. whether it's through a complex, extended metaphor or a simple, heartfelt remark, lenker sings to you everything you knew you felt, but could never quite put into words. everything else on bright future lends itself to this standout lyricism, with each instrumental piece maintaining the space ... read more
