leroy - status update music

if i'm being honest, i had really high expectations for this and was nervous about it delivering. it blew them all completely out of the water.
it's impressive in more ways than i can articulate and just nonstop fun. she's reached a new level of technicality and expressiveness at the same time and i'm really not even sure how given how chaotic it all is, but the way she's able to pick her moments so perfectly and sequence things so intentionally makes this an ... read more

Drake - HABIBTI

genuinely one of the most difficult to listen to pieces of music i've heard in a while

Drake - ICEMAN

this is genuinely depressing to listen to

ezcodylee - STUNT 4 LIFE
81

so i’ve never listened to any of ezcodylee’s solo music before this, but i was recommended the project a lot and saw a lot of discussion on it, so i made sure to get to it eventually. and it’s funny, going in i definitely had to get used to the blend of sounds and sorta hear him out in a way on the vision, especially as someone who’s felt very hit or miss on a lot of the trap-metal type fusions i’ve heard in the past, but now that i’ve given it the time, i ... read more

Playboi Carti - Whole Lotta Red

carti's best by a good margin

isobel - rachel

the one we've all been waiting for since that original niz stream. her best released song to date. i cannot wait for scarlet.

tsubi club - trinket

there aren't many people worth giving 5 years for 28 minutes of runtime, but soren is one of them. do i wish he released more music? yes, but he's a perfectionist because he knows his potential, and when the product comes out like this, i can't say i blame him.

Highsenberg - Revolution
77

good amount of range, lots of personality and really smart use of acapellas. the sound choice and sample usage in general was really creative and refreshing for this style too. i do feel like some of the ideas could've been taken a bit further because there were multiple points where a concept would grow to like what seemed like an intermediate stage of development to me and then just end right there. i think this person obviously has the talent to make things with a bit more depth and ... read more

Yeat - ADL

i admire his attempts to make something grandiose, but a lot of them do unfortunately fall flat. there isn't anything too terrible but a most of this feels super half (or quarter) baked and pretty messy. there are some moments where the ideas land and make you wonder what this could've been, and i think it wouldn't be as disappointing to people if it didn't come after what was probably yeat's best body of work yet in a dangerous summer, but it did and it's a ... read more

Shea - Eskipade

the noisier parts are my favorite, but i'm not too big a fan of the vocals and some of the transitions between sections are a bit awkward. their composition work is solid though and they clearly have a good understanding of the best pacing to fit this style. this music project could definitely evolve and make something that sounds more complete and smoother, but a little hit or miss for me on this one.

Ninush - The Flowers I See You In
65

feels like it's on the cusp of something. sweet while it's on, but not something i see myself coming back to. i hope she continues to expand on this into something grander though because i think it'd maybe fit better and with some bold enough steps while retaining this same earnest approach and sweet sound i can definitely see there being something truly great in her future.

Nick Jonas - Sunday Best
37

i promise i usually hate this term because i think it's reductive and doesn't say much but i swear it applies here: this is so so so overproduced. i swear i can like carve out an ounce of genuineness and it feels like a lot of the anecdotes nick shares here are actually earnest. it's just unfortunate that his jonas brothers top 40 boardroom pop music filter is still on it and subsequently sucks out any discernable morsel of sincerity. he can obviously sing and he's quite ... read more

Daphni - Butterfly

definitely pretty basic from a technical standpoint but i think most of the grooves stick pretty well and the album overall seems like it achieved/would serve its purpose on repeat listens.

Robbie Williams - BRITPOP

the random smells like teen spirit interpolation actually made me burst out laughing this is hilariously bad

MIKE - POMPEII // UTILITY

they have fun on ONE album and people start hating idk man

Tiffany Day - HALO

tiffany's sound has shifted throughout her entire career, but never as drastically as it did with her recent singles run, so i was really curious to see how they would translate to an album context and what she'd place around them to complete the puzzle. mind you, i liked all the singles, albeit to varying degrees, but to be honest, i'm so surprised at how much better they sound to me in the course of the project. a few of them i really loved and some were more casual, but i ... read more

RAYE - THIS MUSIC MAY CONTAIN HOPE.
50

to begin, i just want to say that raye has a gorgeous voice and i absolutely respect the intention behind this record and how earnest her messaging clearly is. she has a very pure energy. with that said, i just think that, despite it being absolutely clear that she's coming from a genuine place, the actual lyrical execution of these ideas, the arrangement of the music meant to accompany and further this direction, and the pacing and structure of the record all vary in quality quite ... read more
