Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles (II)

Ladies and gentlemen....that was something. There's a lot of bangers here, but they all sound the same for some reason. The production feels both creative and amateurish, lined with blippy crystalline synths and throbbing basslines. The lyrics get pretty dark i.e. abuse and abortion. Robert Smith is here too for some reason. Guess I'm a fan as long as the producer isn't a piece of shit!

BEST TRACKS: Suffocation, Not In Love, Celestica
WORST TRACK: Violent Dreams

acloudyskye - There Must Be Something Here

Only using one-word song titles goes so hard. This record, and acloudyskye in general, thrives off of that bittersweet, sentimental sound that some of my favorite artists like Porter Robinson and Parannoul have mastered. There is a noticeable dip in bangers past the third song, but the emotional, coarse production helps carry it the rest of the way home.

BEST TRACKS: Surface, Flares, Relay
WORST TRACK: Quicksand

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙨𝙚 𝙝𝙤𝙚𝙨 𝙞𝙨 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙜. Great production with a lot of personality. The sampling and general creativity that went into constructing these beats really impressed me. The track list is quite consistent and every song had elements I enjoyed, though I thought a few of the (very) highly rated tracks were decently overrated. HAZARD DUTY PAY! is not all that, I'm sorry.

BEST TRACKS: REBOUND!, ARE U HAPPY!, DIRTY!
WORST TRACK: 💯

Gorillaz - The Mountain

𝕿𝖍𝖊. This is solid record from a band that can make much better. Like the last 𝟲 Gorillaz albums, this one is also synthpop, but it's more artsy than past projects and has a ton of Hindustani instrumentation. While this record is cohesive and features some strong tracks, a majority of songs here have lackluster features, subpar choruses, and a general lack of replayability Gorillaz usually has.

BEST TRACKS: The Sad God, The Moon Cave
WORST TRACK: The Shadowy Light

Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory?

An unanticipated amount of bangers. The big 3 songs everyone knows from this record are obviously fantastic, but there's plenty of quality to go around throughout this album. All these tracks have luscious, guitar-centric, alt rock foundations with soaring melodies driven by Liam's passionate vocal performances. Why? Why? Why? Whyyyyy???

BEST TRACKS: Champagne Supernova, Morning Glory, Some Might Say
WORST TRACK: Hello
