Dare I say that this little gem of an EP is an underrated, highly-influential marker of how indie shifted during the mid-00s. Released smack in the middle of 2005 — shortly before the academic, Smiths-inspired twee scene took over — 'Raised by Wolves' is gentle, lucid and thorough, while still taking from some of the sounds of the thrashy, Strokes-esque 20-something angst that ruled the beginning of the decade. Makes me really excited about the direction electronic music is going in. Very reminiscent of The Avalanches. 'Back on 74' was one of THE it-songs of 2023; there aren't a whole lot of other songs that truly stand out as hit-worthy but I don't even think that matters a whole lot. A fresh, feel good work.
