Vince Staples - Cry Baby
90

Vince Staples just released his most topical work yet.

Cry Baby has great consistency, with each track being catchy and easy to get into. This is also the Vince Staples album with the biggest focus on his explicit political messaging, which is stronger here than ever before, far beyond just the admittedly very funny cover art.

This is the kind of album that you can just come back to over and over again. It's probably important to note that you likely won't be getting anything new ... read more

Weezer - We Might As Well Be Strangers
89

Where Shine Again gave me Blue Album vibes, We Might As Well Be Strangers feels more akin to something you'd find on a much later Weezer release, although, while modern Weezer is mostly mediocre or just decent, this track is a banger just like their last.

If Weezer manages to crack the top 5 best albums of the year in 2026, I will be surprised, but very glad. And for what it's worth, I think they're on track to do so.

Weezer - Shine Again
88

Between this track and We Might As Well Be Strangers, I'm excited for the Gold Album in a way that not all Weezer albums make me.

Shine Again goes insanely hard and has a very Blue Album-y vibe, and like every song on that album, it feels incredibly distinct and memorable, which is something that often holds back Weezer tracks post-Pinkerton, in my opinion.

While I hope that there are tracks on the Gold Album that I love even more than the two we have now, this is a very good start to a ... read more

Ed O'Brien - Blue Morpho
83

This is much better than Thom Yorke's last album.

Blue Morpho is a very pretty and relaxing album that I could see myself using quite a bit as background noise.

Best track: Incantations or Teachers

Boards of Canada - Inferno
88

Inferno shows that Boards of Canada have still got it, even after such a long hiatus, in which, as far as I'm aware, they hadn't released any other music.

While not exactly what I would call their best work, this album provides some very beautiful, lush and unique soundscapes which are a joy to experience, and that's really all I need from BoC.

As I was listening to this tracklist that spans over an hour, I felt the time go by much faster than expected, leaving me feeling like ... read more

Vince Staples - Blackberry Marmalade
96

After seeing that Vince Staples dropped another new single, I decided to listen to both, and holy shit, this is sick.

I have high hopes for Cry Baby after what I've just heard.

JPEGMAFIA - EXPERIMENTAL RAP
79

This was my most anticipated release of 2026 up to this point, and did it deliver? Well, kinda.

First of all, I want to say that the standout tracks on this album go SO hard, with heavy beats, crazy production, and that Peggy edge that I love, all of which were expected, but will never get old to me.

Unfortunately, while I feel satisfied with the "EXPERIMENTAL" aspect of EXPERIMENTAL RAP, the inconsistency is where this project starts to fall apart a bit, with the track list feeling ... read more

Panopticon - Det hjemsøkte hjertet
89

Metal that isn't Thrash, classic 70s, or Death (the band) typically goes very underappreciated on AOTY, so I'm glad that this got a chance to be number 1 of 2026, even if I know it has no chance of sticking around.

This entire hour and six minutes was just fantastic; I think this is one of the most cohesive and consistent projects of the Black Metal subgenre, and while it's very abrasive at some points, it feels so raw and genuine that it's less annoying and more like a ... read more

JPEGMAFIA - ¥ (Yen)

A very good single for what is probably my most highly anticipated album right now

Charli xcx - Rock Music
21

I never got Charli xcx the way that most people seemed to, but even as someone who doesn't typically find her work to be exceptional, this just feels so incredibly beneath her

2814 - 新しい日の誕生 [Birth of a New Day]
90

Found this while looking for music to play in a Cyberpunk RED campaign, and I ended up listening to the whole thing

Electric Wizard - Dopethrone
100

Another recently left review said, "This is THE record to play when the apocalypse comes", which is exactly why I've been playing it a lot lately

Anyway, yeah, this thing is incredible

Best track: Funeralopolis

Gorillaz - The Mountain
94

One of their best albums, The Mountain has tracks that are beautiful, catchy and fun, with the influences being very clear; they adopted this sound near-perfectly. This was well worth the wait.

Best track: The Happy Dictator or Damascus

Slowdive - Souvlaki
100

The greatest Shoegaze record of all time, and among the best of all time just in general, Souvlaki is simply gorgeous, and while it's not exactly a hot take, I have to say that When the Sun Hits is one of the best songs ever written

Best track: When the Sun Hits

Tyler, The Creator - IGOR
100

I can't believe I haven't rated IGOR yet...

This is one of my favourite albums of all time; it's my idea of a perfect "heartbreak" kind of project.

Every track here is fantastic, and there's such a variety in styles, while keeping a consistent and coherent vibe; you have catchy bangers like EARFQUAKE and I THINK, you have the more aggressive bop in NEW MAGIC WAND, and you have weirder but extremely touching stuff, like my favourite track on the album: GONE, GONE ... read more

Kendrick Lamar - GNX
92

Officially, objectively, the best Hip Hop album of 2024/5, because the Grammys said so

Seriously, though, GNX slaps, and while I definitely don't think it should've won over most of its opposition, I think it's one of the best and most consistent "hits-focused" albums of all time

I typically prefer Kendrick's more thoughtful work (TPAB, GKMC and DAMN being my top 3 from him), but this album just has so many bangers; with the exception of the title track, I ... read more

J. Cole - The Fall-Off

https://tenor.com/view/mjf-aew-mid-smug-heel-gif-23167683

Okay, it's probably better than "mid", but not by too much

I was never much of a J. Cole fan, but man, I expected this to be better, considering how long he was working on this project

I did like some specific moments on this album, but it was mostly just pretty cool beats with generally uninteresting rapping, save for a few really sick sections

Overall, this just feels like two 7/10 albums thrown together to make a ... read more

Kanye West - DONDA 2 [Reissue]

Kanye West Unbiased LP Reviews #13

Uh oh, I disagree with the popular opinion...

Yeah, I mean, it's nowhere near Kanye's best work, and there are some noticeable flaws (namely the album being too long/overstaying its welcome), but I think this is much more bearable than Donda 1; Donda 2 doesn't try the same experimental style of its predecessor, of which I found quite annoying, and there are a decent number of songs I found enjoyable to some extent here.

Side note: I noticed ... read more

Kanye West & André 3000 - Life of the Party

Overrated, but good

A very nice beat and some great lyrics, but it's not some crazy masterpiece like people say
