i love songs that give me the feeling of cruising down a large expansive highway
free fallin might genuinely be one of the greatest songs of all time. it’s so expansive, expressive and embodies exactly what i imagined america to be like as a child - free spirited, full, bursting with potential, even with all its contradictions. the rest of the album was good rock music which i would probably get more excited about if i was of its generation or a rock listener (i am neither), but nothing came close to evoking the feeling of free fallin.
they used all the ingredients you'd use to make a pop hit, and that's why the record is generally pretty predictive & forgettable.
