im beyond happy to see them top mercurial world, and do so while pushing their sound forward without sacrificing any originality. this album is a feat for both magdalena bay and 2020s pop music as a whole.

this record is defeated sanity mostly continuing the sound of their previous record from 2020, but exchanging the strong emphasis on avant-garde songwriting for a furthered focus on technicality and progressive tendencies. that doesn't mean they've lost any edge, as this record is suffocating with it's relentless blast beats, constant tempo switches, odd time signatures and heavy riffs, using all sorts of styles from slam riffs to sweeping harmonies. defeated sanity continues to ... read more
imagine, in your head, a paysage d'hiver record, in the year 2024. congrats, you've heard die berge. also, why is this 100 minutes long? and can we kill the unnecessary trend of atmospheric black metal records being this bloated?
