It's a lot of fun! When I saw the genres this album fits in with, I rolled my eyes - remembering my past traumas with that kind of sound. But I was surprised: it's extremely fun! And there's one thing that stuck with me throughout listening to this album: it seems to be a bridge between nostalgia and modernity, without ever crossing the line, staying in the middle.
I could spend half an hour debating here until I think this album is bad, but that's unlikely to happen. The journey to the release of this album has had its ups and downs, the lowest point being the release of “Perfect Stranger”, but even that low point was forgiven with the release of the album in full. I was a little disappointed that it was a BANKS album. She had a certain quality in her early albums, but this one is a complete dilution of her identity, bordering on the generic many times, sounding like a desperate attempt to return to her old persona, so much so that you can identify fragments of elements she used at the beginning of her career. It's a shame to see such a beautiful cover wasted on such a bad bunch of tracks.
This album is an unprecedented journey. The narrative is entertaining and the way an “album storyline” is used is great. The problem is that the quality is sometimes unstable.
It's certainly a good sound, but sometimes it seems so lifeless that some tracks die while you're listening. But it's definitely worth a listen, without making you want to end your life.
The album tries to cover many styles, with attempts at a bit of everything on every track: sometimes more intimate “party” songs, sometimes more vulnerable sounds, but all this ambition ends up fizzling out in an almost lifeless album.
The production has its ups and downs, but most of the time it's underwhelming.
finally some good R&B, with very good quality and touching, sometimes nostalgic songs
