Bladee - Sulfur Surfer

anyone else who sees this album as existentially depressing? i haven't seen someone talk about this AT ALL, but for me this album is incredibly tragic for some reason. and i'm not even talking lyricism (for rare exceptions; see the chorus of "black fire"), i rarely read lyrics intentionally and usually can't catch them on air without trying to. but it feels like there's just something dark about this album that speaks to me and that i can't put into ... read more

alright who could predict that they're going SYNTHWAVE for this one???
introit is amazing, the main song... as well, i guess? bit cheesy, i don't like the drums that much and idk how to feel about the spoken word part (upd: nah its chill). everything else is great, that classic boards synth towards the end tho 🤌
pretty sure it'll grow in the context of the album. not disappointed for sure, since the expectations were not that high.

we should send a recording of 32a_reflected as an interstellar radio message and maybe aliens will finally respond to us

Stereolab - Peng!

damn, wild take but i'm kinda liking the og mix much more than remaster. it sounds softer and less grating even if it's kinda shitty.
cute album regardless, but their TRUE DEBUT "switched on vol.1" is better in every single way i will DIE on this hill

also surrealchemist makes me cry

felt like listening to 2,5 hours of dub techno at 6 am =)
conclusion: it's neat! feared that i might just get bored of it very fast but nope, it's surprisingly melodic and diverse all the way throughout. of course the best tracks are the most immersive ones (like first three, or the very last one) but i can't say that there are some real rough spots on here. great collection of tunes for monotone work, long drives, sleeping, really anything.

was PRAYING for this album to be decent and i'm so glad its actually great!!! only complains is that the songs are too short sometimes and the repetitiveness, but its literally their debut album so i'm surprised that its THAT good like holy

this album never really seemed *scary* or *unnerving* to me (except for drove interlude), i'm just so used to all of these songs that i simply associate them with a comfy late october evening, the time when i usually come back to this album for.. obvious reasons
also noise is really yummy here. happy 5th!

many, many songs here that i've heard at some point in my life more than once and i love them bc of that. but if i'd heard them right now for the first time there's a huge chance i wouldn't gave them near the score i did (upd: dude what are you talking about, why did i think this). also i deadass thought that this has like.. 85+ score and is generally beloved?? was surprised to learn that it's pretty divisive
could've easily been a 9/10 or even higher but 6-10 ... read more
