Remember in those fantasy shows in which this huge magical event would happen if all planets in their system aligned with each other? That is the perfect way to describe the Black Veil Brides. When everything comes together for them, say the gothic rock influences, theatrics, classic metal, metalcore and classical, they truly convey a sound that is so overwhelmingly immersive, epic and grandiose in the best way possible. Wretched and Divine (2013) was such an event. Since then, they have not ... read more
Literally torn wide open by this album. It gets better with each listen. I understand why this album is rated so high. Listening to this album is such an overwhelming experience. I was intrigued by the song lengths (most songs span between 8 to 10 minutes with the final one spanning 16 minutes!). Songs of these length are either hit or miss, but when they hit, they hit harddd. And ALL songs on this album do!! With heavy riffs that groove so hard with the drums, and vocals that find their ... read more
Not my favorite genre but when it slaps it slaps. Mesmerizing beats with engaging synths and those perfectly fitting vocal lines make it such joy to listen to because it is done so well. I found it too bad that after "YES GOD" the album was sounding a bit too repetitive and a little boring (luckily $T.LOSER upped the energy level), because the first half of the album is filled with bangers.
This is a huge step forward for Yonaka! I have always been intrigued by Yonaka's music, because I felt that there was some special spark in their combination of heart-felt lyrical themes and pop-rock music, that match the lyrics very well in mood. However I always felt like they themselves could not exhaust 100% of their amazing ideas and put them into just as amazing executions. But on this album they came closer than ever before.
(I reaally dig the accent shift in the beat in ... read more
Just like And Justice For All..., if not for the shitty production, Death Magnetic would be a serious contender for the second best Metallica album. These songs are just that good.
Metallica sure are masters of this game considering they outplayed every thrash metal artist to have ever existed and will ever exist.
I love it when artists try new things. I love it even more when it turns out to be gold. I can only applaud and respect the way Gorillaz blend western genres with Indian music (creators).
Latin jazz suits Bruno's voice unsurprisingly well, though I wish the songs had some more of that special sauce in melodies that I so love about his music. No pieces sound bad, but many parts in their compositions feel like anime filler episodes. Also, the mix feels a little loud and too much in your face, which is a little distracting.
Too bad the second half is filled with forced 6/8 ballads, which is not their strong suit.
Always interesting to hear an artist's vision on their first musical release. Interestlingly, while we can see a trend of rock-oriented artists slowly taking their foot of the rock-pedal as they gain popularity (or as they grow older at least), for Sleep Token it is the other way around. Though not entirely unique and noticably still looking for their definite sound, I cannot but wish there was at least one more EP of Sleep Token tackling this dreamy-esque metalcore mixed with that very ... read more
Listening to this album felt like watching a play in a theatre. Really deserves some more listens.
I am just going to say it up front: this album is a huge throwback to the early days of ADTR. But boy can they do it well. The superhooky choruses sung with so much passion using melodies that give us all the nostalgia we want and more. The riffs are also crushing on this album. Nothing spectacular, but they demand the attention to be listened to and are always exactly what the song needs, nothing less to expect from a band that has had 20 years to perfect their songwriting. Most of the songs ... read more
Who was this album even made for? Aside from NWO, Violent Nature and God, I Prevail has no musical ideaa worth sharing. Nothing innovative, or at least a tiny bit unique, something that would be expected from one of the largest modern metal bands out there. The tracks feel empty and hollow, and are so predictable. Just a bunch of distorted guitars, modern sounding drums, and basic choruses. The reason why I have not rated any lower is because of the three tracks mentioned above, which bring me ... read more
Orbit Culture does not play around on Death Above Life. Track after track they deliver banger after banger, while holding the listener's attention with a diverse set of grooves and rhythms which does not bore at all. Though not entirely new for Orbit Culture, the futuristic sounding production really helps every down beat feel like an explosion of energy, which fits the songs so well, as we are used to on previous albums. It seems like Orbit Culture has really perfected their writing of ... read more
