This album offers nothing of substance. It’s a mind-numbing experience to get through. The cookie-cutter chord progressions and uninspired melodies made me feel like I was being spoon-fed the most pureed brand of pop Taylor could bother to put together. The highs are solid and the lows are disgraceful. The album is extremely pretentious at times but it has moments where it breaks through the superficial and actually says something. “Funny You Should Ask” is interesting and I’ll admit that “Lone Star” had me. Overall this record sounds like the All-American Rejects doing an impression of Modern Baseball.
