Let's talk about this album in terms of the genre. Neo-soul. It's crazy to think that this is jazz, R&B, hip-hop, merged into one: beautiful harmonies, expressive and suave vocals, and beat patterns that are both very electronic and modern and quintessentially Afro, in a way that isn't as visible in more modern Neo-soul works such as those of Daniel Caesar, Leon Thomas, Steve Lacy or H.E.R. (but is more present with music from people like Tems). If you're not familiar ... read more
Okay but like... let's talk about that five song run tho
I love in Rainbows. It took a while for me to fully get it, but I realized that the fact that I keep on having trouble picking a favorite song is proof that this album is excellent. It's just an amazing experience, what more can I say? We have the boldness of 15 Step and Bodysnatchers, which make you think that this album is going to be a slightly more electronic OK Computer, but then wow. Nude. One of the most mournful songs ... read more
It is criminal, absolutely criminal, that I, an avid fan of jazz, had only heard about this album just over a year ago. When I first checked out this site, I had, naturally, expected Kind of Blue to be the highest jazz album. So when I saw that this was not only higher but rated in the top 20 albums (I believe it was #12 at the time?), I was almost equally shook with both debilitating shame and ardent excitement.

Les presento el maravilloso rey del rock, Gustavo Cerati – what more can I say that hasn't been said? This album is a perfect musical representation of the turn of the two centuries, an album that effortlessly and beautifully blends rock with sampledelia and psychedelic sounds. And goodness fucking gracious, that first nine-song run? It's just like the lighter being struck and the cigarette being lit, and if the tenth track represents the inhale of the ... read more
This band, and this album, hold an extremely special place in my heart, so I completely understand if my personal rating does not match the objective score. Even so, I still think this album is very underrated. Instead of their considerably calmer alternative rock that you see in Veckatimest or Shields, or an even calmer folksy sound that they mess around with in Yellow House, Painted Ruins is Grizzly Bear's exploration of a more psychedelic sound, and just about every track (in my ... read more
Miles Davis does it again, this time with two long songs that redefine both jazz itself and music as a whole. This album represents the perfect transition point between Kind of Blue and Bitches Brew, blending the cool, soft, and masterful musicianship of the former with the seed of funkiness and atmosphere that fully blooms once realized in the latter. And I lovesss it.
