North West puts forth an incredibly impressive set of tracks all things considered, just not something I'm entirely into. she has a great voice that i look forward to seeing develop further!
it is pretty funny that her EP has a better mix than anything her father's released the past few years though.
Joji used to be one of the most exciting voices in music to look forward to; making major waves in the underground with his immersive & hypnotic melodies/beats and gorgeous vocal stylings.
nowadays, Joji skirts the mainstream every 3-4 years by jockeying trends, making songs and entire albums without any sense of structure or thematic focus beyond "sad because women". as a former fan, it's really disappointing. i would really like to see him evolve past the occasional ... read more
i don't believe in the death of mainstream hip-hop, but albums like this make me understand how someone could come to that conclusion.
J. Cole's songwriting and production remain firmly stuck a decade or so in the past. two discs with nothing truly special to show for it. he lacks the focus to make a proper concept record. no grand statement outside of "i set-out to make my best album", but what does that even mean, Jermaine? no fun? because this shit is dry. sauceless. ... read more
oh hey, new pink guy music.
for being overtly try-hard, this is shockingly toothless. the type of satire to impress prepubescents.
i respect the attempt but generally speaking, this is executed quite poorly. Chance's singing is equal parts endearing and grating, making the emotional highs hit while any attempt at making a hard-hitting record only has me thinking of what his contemporaries could've dine instead.
not something i would ever return to.
an extremely odd conclusion to the KYS saga but in a way, it shines because of it's strangeness.
For The Last Time has this very bouncy silly beat with the HEAVIEST 808's pounding away.
I Hung Myself For A Persona...alright listen, my initial experience was as equally befuddled as the rest of y'all but if we're being honest, it's actually a lot of fun and I wish they would do dumb shit like this more often.
Last song is typical for the duo, but still knocks.

despite my enthusiasm dwindling these last few KYS tapes, i still have a lot of love for this EP. it has a really strong vibe to it that immediately pulls you into the introverted sardonic lyrics and sound.
great variety of beats here too considering how samey a lot of their music was becoming.
very standard fare for the $B, but still has it's appeal.
at the point in their discography where i'm struggling to find new things to say in regards to their KYS tapes. not to say they don't experiment any further going forward but you can tell they got fairly comfortable in their sound for a while.
a project of diminishing quality but still overall a solid listen. fairly by the numbers for their sound but it does it pretty well.
releasing this EP with that cover on 9/11 is wild though, just now noticed that LOL
considering how i kept forgetting which EP this was or what the songs even sounded like, it's safe to say this was a mediocre listen. however, there are elements that I did find neat; an example being the stripped back, skeletal beat on the first song being paired with some HEFTY 808's...which the more i really describe, i realize is a quality a lot of $B songs have done already...and better.
its pretty good on it's own, though it doesn't reach for the same heights that the prior KYS saga entries obtained. max kream's verse sounds off for whatever reason to me, maybe its just the way he layers his vocals.
now it seems with this release, i seem to be at odds with the general AOTY community, with a majority of listeners believing this to be a disappointing/underwhelming follow-up to the 13th entry of the KYS saga.
for the life of me, i do not understand this. especially when looking at the track ratings and factoring in how consistent it is with the former releases. each song brings something unique to the table while coming together in a perfect assembly of cohesive sounds and bouncy flows. ... read more
i get it if this project bounces off your ears but to me, it's everything i look to $B for when it comes to their lowkey cuts. great sample choices here make for an immersive, ethereal listen that compliment the anguish conveyed by the vocals and lyrics. scrim's approach to melody works exceedingly well here for me and ruby's yelped vocals fit perfectly.
more than just New Chains, Same Shackles
another example of the hot streak the $B were on in 2017. not as flashy as the previous release in the KYS saga but it instead offers an onslaught of sticky verses that never fail to be fun.
not much to say outside of the fact that hearing 2nd Hand live is proof of their ability to craft a string of incredibly memorable quotables.
after two years and over a dozen projects inbetween, the $B have returned to the saga put them on the map. what makes this special is seeing the amount of growth both in their production/instrumentals and rapping capabilities.
it feels like a statement on their careers at this point, having obtained a substantial following in the underground by this point. that the pair are only going to continue to improve.
of course, the music itself doesn't necessarily reflect that in a literal ... read more
FILTHY. GRIMY. DISGUSTING.
this whole tape greasy in the slickest of ways. comes in harsh and never relents, something that i adore! if it were not for the fact that the momentum is kind of lost with the last two songs, this would be a perfect release in my eyes but i feel it lost the aesthetic they had built for the first four songs in favor of a more generic approach to the popular distorted bass sound that ruled on Soundcloud.
cover used to make me uncomfortable when i was younger but i be ... read more
a expertly crafted tracklist for a mixtape; i could very easily recommend this as a great introduction to the $B and their mythos.
great balance of features as well, was a nice surprise to hear Da$h and Denzel steals the entire show with his performance.
the best of the INLFTRGMH series, the best of their EP's, probably their best tape if i'm being honest.
sonically speaking, not only is it probably their most consistent in sound & scope but Ruby and Scrim here are at their best here; whether it be their approach to vocals or flow, it's all great.
now personally speaking, my love for this project is likely due to the fact that i've had these songs in my listening rotation since it's release nearly 8 years ago. My ... read more
without a doubt, the tape that i will forever and always associate with $B at their peak. getter steps in to add his unique flavor of production, taking several iconic and sticky vocal samples from past $B projects; making for an incredibly addicting and brain-scratching listen. love the performances from the duo here as well, nonstop fun!
