as someone who is a fan of chino moreno/deftones, i became curious about some of the folks he has collaborated with throughout the years. so naturally, i was led to the band Far! i travel on over to their artist page on apple music when, i sample their most popular song.
its a fucking cover of Pony by Ginuwine; complete with horrific autotune and tacky rock instrumental.
no thanks but that shit was hilarious
throwback to when i was broke as fuck in school and listened to music using the shittiest earbuds i could find
vince at his most nihilistic; tackling the trappings of fame as a black man in the industry with pure angst
lacks the electrifying energy of astroworld and focus of rodeo but it's highlights are gorgeous to behold; as disjointed as the whole experience may be.
electrifying to it's core, it has this irreverent energy and admiration for music that i just can't get enough of. love the ideas and personality on display here!
they got hozier making imagine dragons metal music.
at times the aesthetics come together to create this super futuristic pristine metal and then there's just moments of pure lazy derivative "genre-meshing" that take the blandest ideas and slap them onto completely unrelated ones. the songwriting is super cold and calculated with the vague, non-compelling lyrics forcing you to place all focus on the inconsistent instrumentation.

from nu-metal to ska, 100 gecs once again showcases their acute ability to appeal to the modern generation's collective nostalgia with flying colors. more importantly, this album was a lot of fun to listen to and shows an incredible display of confidence from both Laura and Dylan.
it was an interesting experiment for sure; though it ultimately just highlighted what made the original songs so captivating to begin with. a fun listen nonetheless.
i remember the first time listening to the project and while listening to Storm, i was completely taken aback. it felt like a legitimate ascension into pure light, just endlessly building and layering upon itself sounds and textures. and it was in that moment that i knew this album was a perfect experience.
hard to play a character when the story is just one big fetishized tantrum about made-up bullshit
its kinda ambitious at points but it feels like a real lack of artistic progression on melanie's part; vocally and lyrically, this project is lacking in both. sometimes the autotune is so grating, its hard to tell if its a stylistic choice or a mistake but the processed sound clashes horrifically with the aesthetics of the album so ehhhhhhhhh
this shit feels like classic hip-hop from 2199
edit: saw them perform with live instrumentation and dude. holy shit.
